Why choose wood?

Wood is a natural product and when responsibly sourced it is the only renewable building material available.  Trees will be replanted and forests regenerated which provides a wide range of other benefits such as further carbon storage, oxygen generation and forest habitat.  It is in fact the only building material that helps us to tackle climate change!

Wood is naturally grown and removes CO2 from the atmosphere.   Wood products then store the carbon that the growing trees have removed from the air.  It is important to remove carbon from the atmosphere as well as reduce new carbon emissions going into the atmosphere. Wood achieves both of these.

It is said that as a general rule, if you substituted one cubic metre of a solid material, e.g. concrete or brick, for a cubic metre of timber, you would eliminate around one tonne (1000kg) of carbon dioxide from being emitted into the atmosphere!

Wood is waste efficient, biodegradable, non toxic and recyclable, when looked after correctly it can last for 30 years or more.

Air pockets within wood’s cellular structure create a natural barrier to heat and cold.  This makes it a great insulator which means that products made from it are extremely energy-efficient e.g. doors and window frames.  Many species of wood have a life span of 30 plus years which easily rivals modern alternatives for doors and windows.
