Our clients wanted to replace their existing softwood exterior staircase, balustrade and deck rails. They wanted a new staircase that would be atheistically pleasing, but that would also stand the test of time. The original direction of the staircase was to change.
Our clients wanted it to lead directly out onto the garden instead of running alongside the house as it had done previously. We worked very closely with them to produce a design that completely lived up to their expectations.
We manufactured the staircase, balustrade and decking in Iroko hardwood due to its durability and resistance to rot and insect attack. Being an external staircase, this was imperative to achieve a long-life expectancy for the staircase.
The staircase was made to a straight design with balustrade and shaped risers to give it a bespoke feel and some unique detail.
The treads were formed in 3-parts to lessen the possibility of any movement given that we were providing a full 300mm wide tread. The rise was kept low for the ease of use, with a drop riser bar to maintain the legal requirement.
